EMMA, our Electromagnetic Mass Accelerator, unlocks a new approach to hypersonic development by filling the major gap left by today’s testing tools. Existing methods, such as wind tunnels and CFD, struggle to recreate real high-Mach, high-Reynolds conditions, offer very short test durations, and limit iteration cadence. This slows development and leaves critical behaviors under-validated.
EMMA changes this equation. Using electromagnetic acceleration, it launches test models to hypersonic velocities with high repeatability and minimal setup time. In practice, EMMA functions as a “reverse wind tunnel.” Instead of pushing air across a stationary model, we send the model through realistic atmospheric conditions at actual hypersonic speeds.
EMMA enables multiple tests per day, dramatically increasing test campaign efficiency and reducing cost. It turns hypersonic testing into a continuous engineering process, enabling faster discovery, deeper understanding, and rapid advancement of high-speed flight technologies.
